GemRate Scoring Definitions
The GemRate colored gemstone scoring system, now trademarked by AfricaGems.com was devised for a simple purpose. To give a potential gemstone buyer a “snapshot” of the quality of a colored gemstone based on an easily understood numeric score.  Colored gemstones do not have the luxury of a standardized grading system like diamonds.

The GemRate system is based on the most important fundamental grading aspects of colored gemstones to determine value.  At AfricaGems.com, the GemRate scoring system is based on the evaluation of a gemstone by Marc Sarosi, an expert in the colored gemstone industry for 24 years.  Marc has seen literally millions of gemstones and has graded hundreds of thousands of gemstones of all types. Marc’s GemRate scores are impartial, fair and absolutely honest.
