Historical Blue Diamonds – The Most Famous Natural Blue Diamonds in the World
One of the most famous Natural Blue Diamonds is the Hope Diamond, which gets its magnificent color from the presence of boron within its crystal structure. It currently resides in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. in a new setting designed by the Harry Winston firm. The Hope Diamond weighs 45.52 carats and the color is described as a “superfine deep blue.” The History of the Hope Diamond involves many legends; most of which have been proven to be fanciful, but the tales of the Hope Diamond are colorful nonetheless. For some time it was believed that the Hope Diamond was cut from the same stone as the French Blue diamond, the famous royal diamond of Louis XIV, however it was later discovered to be impossible. Some say that the Hope Diamond was originally an eye of a statue of the goddess Sita. There are also many stories about the curse of the Hope Diamond and how all of its owners suffered horrible fates, however it seems that the stories about the cursed Hope Diamond were fabricated by 20th century Westerners who were trying to add mystique and increase the diamond’s price. A more recent famous Natural Blue Diamond is the Heart of Eternity Diamond, with a Fancy Vivid Blue color measuring 27.64 carats. The Heart of Eternity Diamond was found in South Africa’s Premier Mine and made its debut at the DeBeers Millennium Jewels Collection in 2000 and it was later exhibited in the Smithsonian.

Buying a Blue Diamond – Always Buy a Blue Diamond With a GIA Certificate
The best way to ensure that you are buying a quality diamond is to look for a GIA Certificate. GIA is a non-profit institution; they do not buy, sell or appraise diamonds, rather they focus on education and research. GIA has been trusted by fine jewelers worldwide for over 50 years to provide the highest standards of reliability and assurance. Based on the 4C’s of diamonds—clarity, cut, color and carat—GIA provides a reputable and comprehensive analysis of the quality and authenticity of each stone. All of our Fancy Blue Diamonds come with GIA certificates so that you can be sure you are purchasing a quality stone.
